Nutrition:
You know it, we've all heard it. It's good for you
to eat a healthy, low-fat diet rich in vitamins, minerals
and fiber. The same holds true for TTC. If your eating habits
are less than healthy now, try to change them gradually so
that when you do get pregnant, eating well will be easy for
you.
It's also a good idea to start a moderate exercise program
if you haven't already. Walking, swimming, biking or yoga
are all gentle, enjoyable activities. Try to work up to 20-40
minutes, three times per week. Taking this step now will help
you have a healthier pregnancy, more energy for delivery and
an easier time to return to your pre-pregnancy weight.
Vitamins:
Folic Acid has been proven to prevent defects in
the formation of the fetus' spinal cord during the first trimester
of the pregnancy. Take about 400 micrograms per day.
B6 has been shown to help improve Luteal Phase Defect (LPD).
Allergies to B6 are fairly common so be careful; start with
a low-level supplement, or a multivitamin that includes it.
If you experience dizziness, tingling or pain in the arms
and legs discontinue immediately.
Many women start Pre-Natal vitamins prior to becoming pregnant.
If you don't already take a multivitamin supplement this may
be the way to go. Your Doctor can prescribe them or you can
find them in pharmacies or online. If you choose an over-the-counter
brand make sure it has enough Folic Acid, Zinc and calcium.
